Livingston history

 

Brighton

The Livingston Courier began publishing on Jan. 10, 1843 by W. Sullivan. After a year it moved to Howell with no issues published Oct. 11, 1843-Nov. 15, 1843 due to the move. It ceased publishing in April, 1857.

 

The Brighton Citizen began publishing circa 1871 by A.G. Blood. By 1873 it was published by G.W. Axtell. It ceased circa 1890.

 

Brighton Weekly Argus began publishing circa 1880 by Charles E. Placeway. It appears that in 1881 Placeway merged this paper with his other, The Pinckney Gazette and briefly published under the title Brighton Weekly Argus. and Gazette before returning to the title Brighton Argus. It ceased in Sept., 1965 when it merged with Pinckney Dispatch, to form Brighton Argus Pinckney Dispatch.

 

Brighton Argus Pinckney Dispatch began publishing on Oct. 6, 1965 by the Brighton Argus. Within a month the name was changed to The Livingston County Argus-Dispatch.

 

The Livingston Community News began publishing circa 2003.

 

Fowlerville

The Fowlerville Review began publishing on June 19, 1874 by W.H. Hess. On Feb. 4, 1970 the title was shortened to Review and was published by Richard Rudnicki, Lena Rudnicki Klein. It ceased on May 31, 1972 and was absorbed by Livingston County Press.

 

Howell

The Livingston Democrat began publishing on Aug. 5, 1857 by Joseph T. Titus, having purchased the equipment of the Courier. It ceased in 1928 and was continued by Livingston County Press.

 

Livingston Republican began publishing circa May, 1855 by Harmon Smith. It ceased on July 31, 1929 when it merged with Livingston County Press, to form Livingston County Republican Press.

 

The Livingston Herald began publishing on Nov. 19, 1886 by A. Riley Crittenden. It ceased circa 1908.

 

Livingston Tidings began publishing circa 1906. By 1910 it was published by A. Riley Crittenden.

 

Livingston Reporter began publishing on June14, 1918 by A. Riley Crittenden.

 

Livingston County Press began publishing on June 6, 1928 by Livingston Press Co. It ceased on July 31, 1929 when it merged with Livingston Republican to form Livingston County Republican Press. It published under that title until Sept. 29, 1937 when it reverted back to Livingston County Press.

 

Today News began publishing circa 1968 by Today Publications Inc.. It was semiweekly.

 

Pinckney

The Pinckney Gazette began publishing on Oct. 20, 1879 by Charles E. Placeway. In 1880 it was likely absorbed by Brighton Weekly Argus also published by Placeway.

 

Pinckney Dispatch began publishing on Jan. 18, 1883 by Jerome Winchell. It ceased on Sept. 29, 1965 when it merged with Brighton Argus, to form Brighton Argus Pinckney Dispatch.

 

Gregory Gazette began publishing circa mid 1911 by R.W. Caverly. It ceased on Apr. 25, 1913.
