Lake County History

 

Baldwin

The Lake County Star began publishing on May 1, 1873 by John F. Radcliffe. It was Republican.

 

Chase

Weekly Herald began publishing circa Jan. 1874 by Thomas D. Talbot.

 

The Chase Eclipse began publishing on Feb. 16, 1882 by T.F. Drew & Co. It ceased on May 24, 1883.

 

Idlewild

The Challenger began publishing circa 1950 by the Challenger Publishing Co. It was an African-American semimonthly. From its masthead, “Dedicated to the Improvement of Inter-racial Relations.”

 

Luther

Luther Enterprise is reported to have existed at some time before the Observer.

 

The Luther Observer began publishing circa 1891. By 1893 it was owned by Wilber B. Pool and his brother. It ceased circa 1932.
