Iron River

The Mining Reporter began publishing on Aug. 29, 1885 by Edward P. Lott. It is likely continued by Iron County Reporter.

Iron County Reporter (also published in Stambaugh) began publishing circa late 1880s. By 1893 it was published by P. O’Brien. A daily edition, The Daily Reporter began on Dec. 8, 1921 and ceased circa 1922. It was continued by Iron River-Stambaugh Reporter, a semiweekly which began on Jan. 2, 1923 by P. O’Brien. After July 6, the paper split into two papers. The Stambaugh-Caspian Reporter and The Iron River Reporter. In 1926 the two papers rejoined to form The Iron River Reporter and Stambaugh-Caspian Reporter published by the Reporter Publishing Co. The paper has since had the titles, Reporter (1968-1970), Iron River Reporter and Stambaugh-Caspian-Gaastra Reporter (1970-1976), Iron River Reporter (1977-1978), Reporter (1978-1998), and finally Iron County Reporter (1998 to current). Beginning in 1968, it was published by Northland Publishers.
