Iosco history

 

East Tawas

Iosco County News began publishing circa 1941. By 1963 it was published by K. Berkeley Smith. It merged with Tawas Herald, to form Iosco County News Herald.

 

Iosco County News Herald began publishing on Apr. 8, 1981 by News-Press Pub. Co.

 

Oscoda

The Oscoda Press began publishing circa 1880. (By 1962 it was published by K. Berkeley Smith.) The story of Paul Bunyan was first published here on Aug. 10, 1906.

 

The Press and Huron Shore Resorter began publishing circa 1880. (By 1933 it was published by Will McGillivray.)

 

The Press began publishing circa 1895. (By Nov. 1905 it was published by Smith & Smith.)

 

Wurtsmith News began publishing circa 1967 by Teel’s Pub. Co. for the Wurtsmith Air Force Base. It was continued by The Klaxon.

 

The Klaxon began publishing circa early 1990 by the Wurtsmith Air Force Base Public Affairs Office.

 

Tawas (City)

The Iosco County Gazette began publishing on Sept. 24, 1868 by the Gazette Printing Co. owned by James O. and C.H. Whittemore and O.B. Church. In 1881 it moved to East Tawas. It ceased circa 1961.

 

Iosco Co. Pioneer was publishing by July 1876.

 

The Tawas Herald began publishing circa 1884. By 1893 it was published by Len J. Patterson. It merged with Iosco County News, to form Iosco County News Herald.

 

Iosco County Gazette began publishing on Aug. 1/2, 1992 by Printers Devil Press.
